This is decidedly off-topic, but if Hebanon Games is going to keep putting stuff out for Red Markets, it needs to continue growing. If nothing else, the hustle is fitting for the RPG setting.

Anyway, we've created a board game. It's lighter fare, but if you like the design of Red Markets, we'd appreciate you checking out our first foray into a different tabletop space.

General Discussion / Re: Marketing - Maid the RPG more popular?

We have something like 34 games scheduled with our con packet. I'm trying to figure out the schedule as we speak. Some will be run in the IGDN room, but the rest will go to general con organizing.

General Discussion / Red Markets PDF now available through DTRPG
« on: November 19, 2017, 06:00:42 PM »
The full-PDF of Red Markets is now available for sale at Drive-thru RPG. If you aren't quite ready for the print book, it's got everything you need to run the game and hyperlink navigation.

Best of all, unlike Indie Press Revolution (our print distributor), DTRPG has a review feature! Reviews of the game would be ENORMOUSLY HELPFUL, and DTRPG is a great place to drop them. Even if you've already bought the game and don't want to buy it again to enable the review function, a few kind words on the discussion board would still be great. Help us out!

General Discussion / Re: Rules questions and other sanity checks

It's hand waved for now. If you're commanding friendly forces though, it sounds like mass combat. We're going to put out rules for that in the War supplement.

Think of negotiations, only instead of bounty, you're negotiating what percentage of each population dies.

Hello all,

I haven't done much press since the Kickstarter, but I'm participating in Aethercon's Summer Roundtable series. Tonight, Ross Payton and I will be doing a roundtable discussion about Red Markets and the general state of Hebanon Games. Tune in at 8pm CST and ask a few audience questions if you like.

Ruin porn, new tech, stories of weird economic models -- it's all grist for the Red Markets. Share here.

General Discussion / Actual Plays

RPPR, Technical Difficulties, Thrilling Intent, RPX, and many other podcasts have recorded Red Markets games. Discuss your favorite moments, link to more shows, and share general podcast gossip here.

General Discussion / Profit System
« on: June 10, 2017, 10:27:36 PM »
Debate boom vs. bust, track dice probabilities, nitpick the rules, hack the engine, or just ask for clarification on a question. If it has to do with the Profit System, this is where it goes.

Ubiq / Ubiq Board Rules
« on: June 10, 2017, 10:04:22 PM »
Posting Rules

Fiction Isn't License: All forum rules for General Discussion apply for the in-character boards as well:

In-Character Collaborative: This board is for contributing to the setting of Red Markets in-character. Do not post as yourself; post as a Taker with the same handle as you. If someone can't pull your post up at the game table as an inspiration, plot hook, in-setting joke, or piece of flavor text, it probably doesn't belong on the Ubiq board.

Glowing Asides: The rules for General Discussion are complicated by the dramatic irony of writing in character. Remember two things when posting negative things in-character. Firstly, remember that Takers regularly shoot people in the head for a living. While they don't necessarily stay polite all the time, they recognize that shitposting can very quickly turn into actual gunfights. Even if things don't descend into violence, they need LifeLines to survive, so staying civil pays. Secondly, you may use the glowing text button to comment on a post out-of-character. If your character says something nasty to another Taker, be sure to include a just kidding or similar message afterwards. Explain where you are headed with the dramatic conflict if it might be taken personal.

Death of the Author: Text can be misread. It happens to Red Markets all the time. When posting in character, perhaps a poster genuinely intended some racist/sexist screed as a character moment and not a personal attack. The person may have even included a glowing lol jk, afterwards. The mods still reserve the right to ban said person if they don't believe the intentions are sincere. Plan accordingly.

There is No Canon: Someone might write as if your character's enclave doesn't exist. They might claim the Loss is in the East. They might be fighting aliens instead of zombie casualties. All of these are fine. The only canon rule is that there is no canon. What little meta-plot Red Markets has is included in the book, and it stays there. The game is for the players to do with as they wish. If something that violates your head-canon comes up in a thread, ignore it, or treat it as Ubiq spam, or call it out as DHQS disinformation. Just don't report it to mods.

Recognize Your Hot Takes: If you've got some really atypical vision of the setting where your Taker lives, recognize that's not the majority. Such posts could be prefaced in glowing text that highlights the context of the character's post. You could also make a different thread where that canon exists. For instance, don't post your characters talking about surviving in the free city of Montreal in the same thread where everyone else is talking about the irradiated, lifeless Montreal crater. Make your own thread and go play with a like-minded crew.

No Play by Post: If you're trying to organize a game of Red Markets in meat-space or online, the General Discussion board is where to start a topic. While a play-by-post thread certainly has a lot of in-character text in it, it also has a ton of movement description, dice results, and other stuff not useful for the Ubiq boards. This is a collective fiction document players should be able to pull up in-game whenever their character wants to see what's popping off on the LifeLines. Save all the B8+2/R9 and other OOC talk for General Discussion; reserve this space as a living game handout.

General Discussion / General Discussion Board Rules
« on: June 10, 2017, 09:27:22 PM »
    General Conduct
    1. Be nice.
    2. Stay on topic.
    3. Make sure there isn't already a thread on a topic you want to talk about before making a new one.
    4. It's good manners to post screen names and quotes when responding to others. If it's personal, send a message.
    5. Personal messages also fall under Rule #1 (screen caps are a thing). People will be banned for inappropriate behavior even if it isn't public.
    6. Do NOT post porn or any "questionable" material; if you would be uncomfortable viewing it at work, do not post it.[/li][/list]

    Posting Rules
Spam Posts: We do not care if you are drunk or high; please do not inform us of either. No one cares if you are "first." Please do not register gimmick accounts and make posts as a gimmick, as they are not funny. Please do not post crap asking us to vote for you on some website, give you referrals for free iPods / flatscreen / spare tires, or any other semi-spam things.

Forum Wars: Don't fuck up the forums or any user on the forums. If you post a malicious link (any URL with spyware or code designed to annoy people) you will be banned. Do not make plans to annoy / destroy other forums.

Stay On Target: Try to use the appropriate thread for your post. This helps people find your thread and makes the forums more user friendly.

Low-profile Conflict: If you insist on flamewars, trolling, and arguments, recognize that anything significant enough to come to a moderator's attention is probably in his/her best interest to ban rather than risk further distraction later. Rule #1 will be enforced with prejudice.

Respect the Mods: The moderators are here to keep the forums safe, sane, and secure. Most of them also had a significant role in creating Red Markets. If they ask you to do something, please do it. Please do not harass or intentionally annoy the mods. If you do not like the mods or the moderation, feel free to not post here.

Harass and Sass: If somebody is harassing you on the forums, then discuss it with them over PM or email before contacting a mod about it. Please do not post others' personal information (phone number, addresses, emails, etc.). Try to stay out of other peoples' personal lives as well. Maintain a healthy distinction between the Internet and real life. Words that are merely insulting may not constitute physical, sexual, racial, or body shaming harassment, but those who conduct themselves in such a way that they A.) come to a mod's attention and B.) seem like may be working towards such nonsense can and will be banned before things go further. There is no appeal process.
Accountability: Only one person may use a forum account. If you share an account, you share accountability. One gets banned, both get banned.

Forum Rules Lawyering: Do not try to cleverly circumvent some rule listed here or pick on some obvious infraction not explicitly listed. This isn't a legal document or a courtroom. Mods will follow the spirit of all regulations, not the letter.

Hate Speech: Offensive terms such as "faggot" or "nigger" may secure instant bans, dependent upon the context of the sentence. Quoting something that was said to you in the context of a real-world interaction would be acceptable (also: sorry that happened to you). Having a character use it in fiction might also be okay, but it's far more questionable (for instance, I hope that character is about to get his/her ass kicked). Using hate speech against another forum member or real-life person will not be tolerated. This rule is completely, 100% subjective and is based on the mod reading the post at the time. There is no appeal process. Remember: if it's bad enough to get a mod's attention, it's already not on the right track.

Politics: All the mods have them. Red Markets certainly has them (if you haven't read the book yet, it leans LEFT). We will let everyone else have their politics too, but only within the scope of our collective gag reflex. If you're a MRA, Proud Boy, TERF or any other flavor of neo-reactionary bigot, you're wasting your time. We will not be entertaining any of your bullshit or reacting to your trolling. You will be banned, again and again, for however long it takes.
